History-Concept
  1. 1.Berry Books Ltd. began publishing children's books in 1997 with The Making Of Strawberry. The story is about two children working together to help their father solve a pesky bird problem. They created Strawberry Scarecrow.
  2. 2.Berry Books are simple stories, yet they reveal the vast complexity found on the average farm.  These stories are for children and foster appreciation for fun, food, fiber and related products from our farms. In addition, the characters will address Greater Good topics, personal and social issues that apply to rural and urban audiences. Print and color the image of the two children making Strawberry.
  3. 3.Strawberry and other characters have evolved and society will continue to contribute to the evolution. To see the characters, click here.
  4. 4.Berry Books Ltd. encourages the evolution and readers can submit stories, with or without graphics, story ideas (Agricultural or Greater Good topics), ideas for editorial content, errors and broken links you find in the site.  All materials  submitted must be your original work and have your release for Berry Books Ltd. to publish your work, be copyright free and in the public domain. All submissions should go to: Submissions@BerryBooks.com or join the BLOG by clicking HERE.
  5. 5.The mission of Berry Books is to present Agricultural stories with Greater Good components.
  6. An analogy is the A-/B-Role concept used in news broadcasting. A reporter at the scene of a fire: the reporter is the A-Role and the fire scene in the background the B-Role. Berry Books consists of an A-Role that is Agriculture and a B-Role that is a Greater Good component. Depending on the components and perspectives, the roles may be reversed or indistinguishable.
  7. In the Hide and Peek story about pumpkins, the A-Role is about pumpkins and the B-Role is the analogy of carving a name in a young pumpkin and instilling values in a child -- both are for life.
  8. 6.Individuals will have the opportunity contribute to the look-and-feel of the site as well as the content.
  9. The three general requirements for stories are:
  10. Agricultural in nature, Whenever possible, the first books were printed with soy ink, an agricultural product.
  11. Include a Greater Good issue. The issue may be in the story, a part of the introduction or conclusion or a part of the subsequent BLOG(s).
  12. A student activity related to the story will be included.
  13. For information on how to contribute to BerryBooks.com, click here.
  14. 7.The credibility and benefit to society in general will become apparent as the site is developed and as it matures.  Once established, the Greater Good will drive the site.
  15. 8.Scholars, writers, moralists will be venerated by applying their quotations within the stories, introductions, conclusions and BLOGs. Many of the famous quotations can be attributed to the scriptures. The site will not specifically be scripture based, however many of the examples could be traced to scripture.
  16. 9.Like humans, the scarecrows and other characters have extended families and friends throughout the world.  Thus the continual introduction of new characters with great diversity.
  17. 10.The cast of characters in the series are four scarecrows and native wild animals who interact with each other, but do not interact with their human counterparts. However the scarecrows discuss the traits and actions of the humans, or live the human life vicariously. And we as humans can tell our stories vicariously through the scarecrows and allowing us to get around the confidentiality issues addressed by current legal/medical standards. Because of the nature of agriculture and human interaction, the site will not anthropomorphize domesticated animals.
  18. 11.Children, especially at an early age, relate to interactions of animals and are receptive to the messages being presented  --  Thus an aid in the formulation of the values.
  19. 12.Nine books have been printed. They have been distributed in every state and several countries. Until the quota is exhausted everyone who requests a FREE sample will receive two FREE books for shipping and handling. Click here for details.
  20. 13.After this current test, the site will be located at:  www.BerryBooks.com.
  21. 14.The intent is to have children have "AHA! and WOW!" moments when they "understand." It in not important that children are "told" that milk comes from cows, however, it is more important that children experience that AHA! moment, and learn that milk comes from cows. Thus the educational concept of teaching children through the actions of the scarecrows about agriculture at the same time instilling the Greater Good values.
  22. 15.The motive of this long range effort is a socially conscience endeavor with economic sustainability. It is an opportunity to develop a product that will bring social change through public awareness of society and the environment, including agriculture for the Greater Good. Further clarification for the production will come from the reaction to the site through BLOGging and e-mail correspondence to webmaster@berrybooks.com.
  23. 16.After the stories are presented, the children, parents, or care-givers such as teachers, day-care providers and relatives, will have the opportunity to participate in a blog, age and/or character specific. These BLOG entries will address issues and applications discovered in the story.
  24. 17.The bottom line: "Think Globally and Act Locally" is the way Berry Books characters vicariously tell stories about Agricultural and the Greater Good. Even in these early stages of the redirection of Berry Books, individuals from six states and other countries are contributing to the concept.
  25. 18.In a synergetic manner the thoughts of many people have been synthesized into this nebulous concept. The redirection mushroomed. People at all levels have been involved and helped formulate this concept. The project continues to grow. To see a list of contributors, click here.
  26. 19.The "Act Locally" part of the project involves individuals, prenatal and parenting groups, local ISDs, collage students and faculty, personal from industry, etc.
  27. 20.The revenue stream will come when the numbers of hits to the site warrant it. The project Has moved from a nebulous concept to an actuality. Individuals, groups, schools and communities are involved and the project is mushrooming on the merits of the content.
